ABSTRACT: This study explores the role of digital badges in recognizing vocational competencies, focusing on their potential to enhance credentialing and employability. The objectives were to (1) assess the awareness and acceptance of digital badges among vocational students and employers, (2) evaluate the impact of digital badges on job placement and career advancement, and (3) identify challenges in the implementation of digital badge systems. A survey design was chosen to gather data from students, educators, and employers, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of digital badge utilization. The sample size included 180 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to include those with experience in vocational education and digital credentialing. The case study was conducted in Abuja, Nigeria, a region with a growing emphasis on digital innovation. Findings indicated that digital badges were widely recognized as valuable credentials, enhancing employability and career progression by providing verifiable proof of skills. However, challenges such as lack of standardization and limited awareness among employers were noted. Recommendations included increasing awareness and acceptance of digital badges through industry partnerships, standardizing digital badge criteria, and integrating digital badge systems into vocational education curricula to enhance the recognition of vocational competencies.
